چکیده

We describe a methodology for the characterization of tactile sensors. We address the questions of verification of manufacturer's claims about the output of a sensor, reliability of the output and robustness of the sensor over time. In our work with tactile sensors, it has become apparent that there is a need for a rigorous methodology of characterizing sensor quality. We implement this as a procedure which is specific for the Lord LTS-200 sensor [ref 1] With some modifications, this methodology could be applied to other tactile sensors. The Application of Tactile Experience in Urban Perception

Urban perception is the result of mutual transaction between human and environment and the process of perception is developed through the three continuous steps of “sensation”, “perception” and “cognition”. In the first step (sensorial perception), the environmental signals are received via sensorial sensors and each different sense based on its own essence, performance and ability has its own ...

Influence of Errors in Tactile Sensors on Some High Level Parameters Used for Manipulation with Robotic Hands

Tactile sensors suffer from many types of interference and errors like crosstalk, non-linearity, drift or hysteresis, therefore calibration should be carried out to compensate for these deviations. However, this procedure is difficult in sensors mounted on artificial hands for robots or prosthetics for instance, where the sensor usually bends to cover a curved surface. Moreover, the calibration...

Design Methodology for Magnetic Field-Based Soft Tri-Axis Tactile Sensors

Tactile sensors are essential if robots are to safely interact with the external world and to dexterously manipulate objects. Current tactile sensors have limitations restricting their use, notably being too fragile or having limited performance. Magnetic field-based soft tactile sensors offer a potential improvement, being durable, low cost, accurate and high bandwidth, but they are relatively...

Tactile Perception of Roughness and Hardness to Discriminate Materials by Friction-Induced Vibration

The human fingertip is an exquisitely powerful bio-tactile sensor in perceiving different materials based on various highly-sensitive mechanoreceptors distributed all over the skin. The tactile perception of surface roughness and material hardness can be estimated by skin vibrations generated during a fingertip stroking of a surface instead of being maintained in a static position. Moreover, re...
